Monaco Yacht Show 2018: Show Report

KHT’s Business Development Director, James Porter updates on Monaco Yacht Show 2018
The Monaco Yacht Show (MYS) may be over for another year, but having recently returned and spent the time since following up on conversations had during the show, I am pleased to be able to report back that it was another outstanding event by everyone involved. Featuring over 120 superyachts including 40 of the latest design builds and over 580 exhibitors from around the globe – it definitely remains the place to discover and learn about the industry.
Whilst the show tends to sway more towards yacht owners, it was good to see a rise in the number of dedicated events taking place for Captains and Crew during the four day event, something which further reinforced our decision to showcase our expanded Crew offering. Our highly experienced Marine & Aviation division now offer yachting clients a Crew Payroll and Crew Recruitment service.
For new or experienced yacht owners attending, MYS continues to be the ultimate event where not only can they converse with experts from all facets of the industry, but it also serves as a “shop window” where new and pre-owned yachts from 30 metres and upwards can be viewed and accessed.
In terms of the yacht sales market, the feedback was one of a steady recovery. All indications show that this trend is set to continue, with the driving force behind this being the increase in the number of high-net-worth individuals looking to enjoy their wealth, and citing yachting as being an integral part of that. However, we do need to be mindful of all the challenges that potentially lie ahead, including the uncertainties of Brexit and with that the posing risks for industry growth. But as ever, MYS also provides attendees with the opportunity to gain first hand insights from some of the industry’s leading figures, which for KHT helps us keep pace with changing developments along with gaining essential feedback from existing clients and industry peers regarding our presence in the marketplace and the conditions to operate within.
All in all, the show continues to be the perfect platform for any owners looking to purchase a yacht or crew seeking their next opportunity. For anyone in the industry it remains the event where you can totally immerse yourself into the world of yachting and everything it has to offer. Much of our service innovation and expansion has come from conversations had during the show, and we will continue to attend for years to come to ensure our Marine division remains an appealing proposition for yacht owners, operators, captains and crew.
