Monaco Yacht Show 2020 – Postponed to 2021!

Posted On: 02 Jul 2020

The organisers of Monaco Yacht Show (Informa Markets) have announced that this year’s edition of the event will no longer take place. The decision to postpone until 2021 was taken in light of the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic.

In our recent article, we shared how the 2020 event has been a hot topic in recent weeks. At the end of May, it was announced that many of the world’s leading superyacht builders and brokers had withdrawn from the 2020 event given the current climate. The impact of travel restriction and the practicalities of how social distancing could work at such a huge event were significant factors.   Industry voices also questioned the return on investment in the current climate if the event was to go ahead. Instead it was suggested that the situation offered all those involved the opportunity to regroup and redesign a new format of the event for future editions.

In an official statement, Informa said, “With much of the superyacht fleet currently located in the US and Caribbean and the normal calendar of activity severely disrupted, it has been agreed that it is in the industry’s best interests to postpone the delivery of a top quality, prestige experience 30th edition of the Monaco Yacht Show next year, in September 2021, rather than September 2020.”

Managing Director of the Monaco Yacht Show, Gaëlle Tallarida, said she respected the decision of clients who did not wish to attend. “Our clients explained to us that they were not comfortable attending the show, which welcomes a large community from worldwide”.

Tallarida continued, “Monaco as a country is now quite safe because the pandemic has been well managed by the authorities… but I appreciate the fact that during the show there are more people, all together, and despite all the measures that could be taken, the exhibitors and clients don’t feel comfortable to attend”, she added.

As regular attendees to the event we feel that the decision to postpone the event in the current climate is the right one.  We look forward to re-engaging with the event in what promises to be a spectacular 2021 come back for the 30th edition of the show.
