KHMA Show Support for Seafarers
Posted On: 08 Jul 2020
Knox House Marine & Aviation (‘KHMA’) is delighted to lend its support to Isle of Man Maritime’s ‘Splash for Seafarers’ campaign. The campaign aims to raise funds for the International Seafarers Welfare and Assistance Network (‘ISWAN’) that assists seafarers and their families around the world.
‘Splash for Seafarers’ was launched at the end of June to coincide with the international ‘Day of the Seafarer’ (25th June) and Seafarers Awareness Week (6-12 July). It is hoped that many individuals and businesses within the marine industry will get involved with the campaign to help raise vital funds and greater awareness of ISWAN. The organisation has experienced a surge in demand for their services as a result of the global COVID-19 pandemic.
ISWAN relies on grants and donations to be able to provide a range of financial aid and emotional support services, including their Seafarer Help (Line?) which is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The global pandemic has meant that many seafarers have been at sea for longer than their normal period of service. Subsequently, the campaign organisers wanted to do their bit to increase awareness of their work, which includes keeping vital supply chains moving, in addition to highlighting the pressures that they remain under while at sea for extended periods of time. Commenting on the campaign, James Porter (Director – Marine & Aviation) said, “As members of Isle of Man Maritime, we were delighted to get involved with their campaign initiative. These are particularly challenging times for those at sea to be away from their loved ones, so any support we can offer ISWAN to help them continue their invaluable work was an instant yes from us.”
He continues, “The campaign simply asks people to record a short video or take a photo of family members making a ‘splash’. They can then donate and tag others to make donations. . My son Joshua was thrilled to jump in the sea and make a splash with me for this great cause.” If you would like to make a donation, please visit: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/splash4seafarers
