Our 10 Gifts of Giving!

Posted On: 15 Dec 2021

Back in March, KHT celebrated its 10 Year Anniversary! Whilst the celebrations had to be put on hold owing to the ongoing Covid pandemic, we made a pledge to make a difference.  10 fund-raising activities in 10 months in order to give back to our local community.

Here we share a round-up of what we did as a team to keep to that pledge. Our activities and challenges, some big, some small, owing to some events having to be postponed until next year, enabled us to provide support to several local charities and sporting clubs.

1:  Walk 10 Miles for 10 Months

This kick-started our anniversary year charity initiatives with one of our team taking up the challenge to walk 10 miles for 10 months! Taking it a step further, Emily who has sadly since left the business actually managed an awe-inspiring 760 miles in total! Raising funds for Isle Listen, an Isle of Man registered charity which provides amazing support and training in schools, the workplace and our local community, to help people recognise that mental health is just as important as physical health.

2:  Charity Rounders Tournament

We definitely need practice for next year, but the team enjoyed much fun and laughter when we took part in a charity Rounder’s Tournament, organised by The Children’s Centre. Held annually, the event raises much needed funds for the charity which does incredible work to help support the Isle of Man’s children, young people and families through a wide variety of community initiatives and services.

3:  Build a Porch Team Building Day

Some of our team braved the elements back in August for a team building day with our friends at The Children’s Centre. The project involved the team building a porch for one of the shelter huts at The Farm, which is a fabulous community initiative run by the charity and used by many of the Island’s children and young people as well as families. It offers a welcoming and therapeutic facility which helps young people to grow and develop not just practical skills, but also help improve their social skills, and develop personal confidence and self-belief.

4:  Honesty Box Donations

Inspired by her time at The Farm, Managing Director, Voirrey Coole took the decision to expand her family with the addition of some hens in her home garden! Voirrey set up an honesty box where she kindly gave away her hen eggs to the KHT team in exchange for a donation which would be given at the end of the year to Isle Listen.

5:  Dress Down Contributions

Whilst we won’t actually be presenting the cheque until the New Year, all the KHT team agreed that their Friday dress down contributions would for 2021 be donated to Isle Listen. Having had several members of the team attend their Mental Health and Wellbeing Workplace Training, the team wanted to give something back to support the charity at a time when increased support is definitely in demand owing to the ongoing pandemic.

6:  Douglas Rugby Club Junior Sponsorship

We all know the benefits of playing sport for our health and wellbeing, so we are always pleased when approached to help support local youth sporting teams. So during our anniversary year, we became one of the sponsors for Douglas Rugby Club’s junior section.

7:  FC IOM Sponsorship

This year we were also delighted to be able to support one of our own team members through our player sponsorship of Alex Maitland for FC IOM football team.  Alex is a dedicated Trust & Company Administrator within our busy private client team, and plays a mean defence when on the pitch!

The Ravens as they are affectionately known compete in the North West Counties Football League (“NMCFL”) which sees them compete at national level. With the squad regularly hosting teams from the North West on the Island that travel restrictions have lifted and travel across for away games.

8:  Breast Cancer “Wear it Pink” Event

We’ve been involved with the Isle of Man branch of Breast Cancer Now for a few years now, and were delighted to turn our branding pink once again this year in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Culminating in a  “Wear it Pink” event in late October where the team wore pink for the day and raised funds for the charity through various events which included, bingo, a cake bake sale and a tombola prize draw.

9:  Donkey Shed Team Building Day

We dispatched another group of Team Builders to The Farm in mid-October to support local charity The Children’s Centre in laying the foundations and undertaking groundwork in preparation for the arrival of a new donkey shed for resident donkeys, Juan and Dougal. Once again the weather was not our friend, but the team rolled up their sleeves to support the charity and help them achieve more for their farm visitors and animals.

Feedback from all the team who attended either of the team building events was quite inspiring, helping them gain a better understanding of the work the charity does within the local community, in addition to bringing the team closer together!

10:  Live at Home Festive Support

We’ve been supporting the Isle of Man Live at Home scheme for a few year now around the festive season. Live at Home is a dedicated Isle of Man registered charity which provides support for their members to live happily at home for as long as they can.

Our team this year have once again offered their support to assist at the charity’s annual Christmas lunch for their members. Donning their festive hats and aprons to assist staff and volunteers in making the lunch a great event for all who attend.  In addition to this the team are also donating gift bags to the charity which will be made up with festive goodies!
